My time in room 7 2013

Breanna 2013
This video has got all my favourite moments and all the best time I have had in my last year at Te Pahu school. I am sad to be leaving and I am going to miss being the oldest in the school.  My favourite time this year was the snow trip and all the awesome wipe outs I had, I also really enjoyed camp Karapiro and the biscuiting on lake. I am really going to miss little old Te Pahu;(

Creative Writing

My gut is churning with butterflies. I am on the front line and ready to fight.” I was an honour fighting with you,” the captain said with a pound tone in his voice. I muttered to myself,” I wish I could be as brave as he is.”
“GO!” he yelled at us. I was quite reluctant to walk forward but then it hit me I was fighting for my country. I ran Terrified what my happen to me into the loud gun fire. I felt quite proud to be in this war and I was determined to come back alive.
All I could see was the shadows of my fellow team mates or what I thought was them some dead and some alive quietly saying to me as I ran “Help me Matthew help me,” I couldn't just leave them there.” I picked up two solders at a time and brought them back to the medic’s not even wanting to look at the horrid gunshot wounds they had. I ran proudly back in to the smoky mist and then I saw the captain lying motionless. My eyes were starting to well up with tears, when he quietly whispered to me I'm okay I've just been shot in the leg. He then said lay down some ones coming, so I did as he said as he is my captain. I lay down motionless trying not to breathe loudly. I see one of the German soldiers walking silently past.

Swimming

We had just started swimming again. I am really enjoying swimming. The pool has been really warm and it is really nice because it refreshes us before a hot day.

Mini Inquiry day

On Wednesday room 7 had a mini inquiry day were we had to create a presentation on our topic 'Energy'. This is my one.

Personification

We have been learning about in class. We had to buddie up and write a sentace with personification in it. These are some of the sentances I wrote. I stood still welcoming in the bright sun onto it's spindly new spring shoots. The Ill coloured moss was clinging to it's chunky trunk. The brittle abandoned mailbox stood swallowed by the curious vines.

Melted Crayon Art

This term room 7 have been creating melted crayon art for the fete. We all had to make a plan off what we wanted our art to look like and pick a canvas size that we thought would work for our design. My design was a wild horse running silhouette with a sunset made by the crayons melting. I got the canvas I needed. We had to choose whether we wanted to have the crayons papers on or not. I was the only one the took the papers off. We had an option of using a heat gun or a hair dryer. I liked the effect of the heat gun I used that. I am really proud of my art and I am glad that the crayons didn't fall off like some. I love my art work and I can't wait to put it up on my wall.

Energy and Sound

This term our topic is energy. We have been learning about the forms of energy and the conservation of energy. conservation of energy is when cannot be destroyed or created but can change its form. for example potential to kinetic energy. We have also been learning about sound, how it travels and pitch of sound. We found out that sound travels better through solids and liquids than in air. We did some experiments to help us understand like tying string around a spoon or knife and them wrapped the string around our fingers, put it in our ears and them hit it against the desks. It sounded like wind charms hitting together.

We also put a speaker into black rubbish bag and but liquids on the bag and them put some music through the speakers. this experiment helps us understand that sound travels through vibrations. We learnt that sound travels at 332 metres per second through air and light can go around the world seven times in one second. We did a experiment were we stood at one end of the field and Mr M stood at the other end, he clapped some wooden blocks together and we had to observe and see if we could see the blocks clapped together before we could hear the noise. This experiment proves that sound takes a while to reach your ears.

I wonder how radio waves are different to sound waves. Some interesting things we found out was that thunder and lightning happen at the same time but light travels faster than sound and a sonic boom happens when something goes faster than the speed of sound.

Athletics

On Wednesday the 3rd week of term four Paterangi School joined Te Pahu School for their seniour athletics. All the students from ages 8-13 years partisipated in all six events. I am writing this post with pure pain in my left leg and i'm about to tell you why.

Its the fourth event of the day for the 12 year old girls and boys, it high jump my favourite activity in athletics. There were 5 girls from Te Pahu and 1 girl from Paterangi. I cleared the 1st , 2nd, 3rd, 4th and then the fith jump at 1.10m. The bar went up to 1.15m, but I just couldn't do it. I jump from the right side but the teacher running it decided to have a fun competition to jump from the oposite that you normally jump from.

The strange thing is that I could jump higher on the left side than the right side. I cleared 1.15m. WOW! what an achievement and it looks like I'll be jump from the left side now.

Over all I had a really good day and I am happy to be going to Lower Waipa for high jump!

Planting and Clearing Day

n Friday the first week back at school room 7 went up to the priongia lodge and started clearing and planting plants for the outdoor classroom. We had to send out sponsorship letters so that we could get plants and donations. I sent one to Thompsons Timber Whatawhata.

When we got up there we had to buddie up with someone. I buddied up with another girl in my class. We were up there with Pirongia School. My least favourite parts were when I had to dig a really big hole and Lilly just stood there watching me and saying, "Keep digging, a little bit more, I think it will fit now", it was really anoying. The other part was when I carried a watering can up and down a slope watering plants. I am really proud of what we have created and I am excited to what it will look like in a couple of years time.

Day Dreaming

Mr Marquand thinks I’m reading but actually… I’m eating a never ending bar of chocolate, I’m shopping in France for expensive horse gear, I’m swimming in a pool of $100 dollar notes.

Mr Marquand thinks I’m writing but actually… I’m saving the horses from war and replacing them with rhinoceros, I’m doing a round of show jumping in the main arena at Horse of the year, I’m scuba diving in the clear waters of Fiji.

Mr Marquand thinks I’m listening but actually… I’m climbing a mountain of chocolate and eating the flake snow, I’m making a periodic table for chocolate, I’m galloping along the black sand beach in Raglan. What an awesome day at school I’ve had, I can’t wait to come back tomorrow.

Te Maunga Shire

Enterprize on PhotoPeach
On Friday the 13th our school hosed a financial market day to support the students learning. The students really enjoyed the whole day and they got to spend their gongs that they had earned. There was a variety of products, foods, games and competitions that people created. The parents came and exchanged money to spend on the products. The exchange was 50 cents to 1 gong. The maximum that they could exchange was $15.00 (30 gongs).

Some of the students were selected by the bank manager (Me) to work bank in the. The students ran the bank on the day and were rostered on and off so they could do some shopping. We made 750 dollars to put towards school events. Over all it was a great experience for all of the student and I hope they all got to buy something. I brought lots of things and had a really good time.

The Paino That Gave Happiness

I was walking helplessly through the forest quietly, after running from guns of the Germans. I just kept running and dodging every tree that got in my way. I was too exhausted to carry on and decided to walk for a while. Surprisingly I ended up were the war had begun. ‘The bombing of the old church’.

I saw in the middle of the rubble a piano that had been the only thing that was left standing. I seemed to be saying to me ‘come over and play me, I will make you feel safe and happy’. So I did. I walked over to it and not knowing what to do I just started playing and yes it did make me feel safe and happy. But when I was playing I forgot that I was in the war and a German soldier had crept up on me. He shouted at me in a gruff voice, “You look like your happy and not home sick,” and before I knew it he had dropped his gun and came over to me and said to me this time in a soft voice, “Do you mind if I join you?” He sounded as sad as I was before I started playing the piano.

What was I meant to say to him ‘no’? I didn’t say no, I said, “Sure come and join us.” He looked at me with a funny face and said, “What do you mean us?” “The piano has made me happy and we are now connected, I know that the whole world can probably hear me but I am so happy and I don’t care now if I get kill.” But really in my heart I didn’t want to die, I just wanted to go home to my wife and kids. And with that he walked over to me and together we played the piano on and on and on. Until we stopped and he said, “Thank you for giving me this happiness,” at first I thought he was talking to me but when I saw him glaring at the piano with a tear rolling down his cheek, I knew he was thanking not me but the piano.

Snow Trip

On friday room 7 went to Mt Ruapahu on a snow trip. We all met at school at 6:00am and set of for our long journey. We had a few toilet stop along the way, but made it to the Whakapapa side of Mt Ruapahu.

At 9:00am we got all of our equipment and started to totter down happy valley. At 11:00am our lesson started. Becausse I already new how to ski I found the lesson a bit borring. At the start of the day I was a little bit nervous, but the nerves pushed of after half a hour of skiing.

After my lesson I was conferdent and was sawing down happy valley. We then stopped and had lunch. My dad and my sister had come down with us, we had gone really we before lunch so we decided to go to the upper mountain.

Unfortnaty I didn't have a very good start. the first time I went down I fell over 3 times and one of them was a tolal wipeout. I gragely got better untill I w as going down with no falls. It was getting late so we had to go back down to happy valley. I went up and down happy valley a few times before all of the lifts closed. On the way home we had Mc Donalds for diner. After we had eaten dinner we got in the cars and drove home and I fell asleep. A tip I have for people who are l earning to ski would be to not give up and and wear lots of sun screan.

The woods that we used were: Rimu, Totroa, Poplar, Kwila, Pine, Kauri, Chestnut, Matai and Macrocarpa. It was the Macrocarpa that won. I am really proud of our board it looked eye catching. We placed first and are going to the Waikato science fair.

Maths

In class I have been learning how to convert fraction to there lowest form, eg 10/20 would be 1/2. We have also been learning how to use fractions to help us work out divison problems. I am finding it quite easy but some of the equations are challenging.

Kindy Reading

Last week room7 walked down the road the Te Pahu kindy. I read The Cats Pajamas and Marmaduke Duck and The Maralade Jam to a little girl in the little play house. We all really enjoyed the reading.

Smelly Hands

Room 7 did an experiment with a two year old Australasian Snapper. It was a massive 12kgs and 82cms long. Mr Marquand cut bits off the fish and 8 volunteers rubbed their hands in it. The products we used were lemon juice, vinegar, soap, watery detergent, tooth paste, salt, water and baking powder. The rest of the class then went and smelt the fishy hands before they had been washed and then smelt them after they had been washed. We then decided whether it was better, the same or worse. We found that the detergent cleaned the hands best. Some students then disected the eye ball.

Cross Country

On Friday the 24th it was cross country at school. I was the 2nd girl home and the 1st in my age group. In my race I had to run 2 kilometers with a hill near the end. The cross country was held on a farm next to the school. My house group and all the parents were yelling and skreeming for us. It was really challenging and I had just enough energy to sprint over the finish line. I am really pround of myself for beating my time by 33 seconds.

Pencil Portraits

We were learning to show shading, contrast and gradent in our portraits. We cut our picture in half and sketched the other half of it. The hardest parts of the face were getting the ear in the right place with the hair coming over it and showing the shading in the mouth so the teeth were seen. I really enjoyed it and I am very proud of the finished picture.
